Paloma Origins

The origin of the Paloma cocktail is somewhat debated, but it is generally accepted to have originated in Mexico. The drink, which means "dove" in Spanish, is a popular Mexican cocktail made with tequila, grapefruit juice (or soda) and lime juice.

One popular theory suggests that the Paloma was created by the legendary bartender Don Javier Delgado Corona, owner of La Capilla bar in Tequila, Mexico. However, there is no definitive proof of this, and the cocktail's creation might also be attributed to the broader Mexican tradition of mixing tequila with fruit sodas.

The Paloma has also gained popularity from the rise of grapefruit soda brands in recent years, making it an easy-to-make drink in homes and bars alike. Today, the Paloma is one of the most beloved tequila-based cocktails, enjoyed worldwide for its refreshing qualities.

TECÁN PALOMA WEEK

In recent years, the Paloma has become so beloved that it even has its own day. World Paloma Day is celebrated on the 22nd of May each year, giving enthusiasts a chance to raise their glass and toast with their favourite Mexican cocktail.

We are big fans of celebrating cocktails with their own festivities, especially when it comes to tequila-based cocktails. But celebrating the Paloma for one day just isn’t enough. So last year we introduced Tecán Paloma Week to enjoy the festivities a little longer!
